“Behavior Therapy May Ease Some Repetitive Quirks” Washington Post article

by | Behavior change

The Washington Post published an article beginning to cover body focused repetitive behavior, specifically hair pulling (trichotillomania) and skin picking (dermatillomania). Article writer Marlene Cimons highlighted the higher prevalence in girls after the age of 12, and the possible genetic or neurological links. Treatment is most effective through behavioral approaches, typically habit reversal training, or comprehensive behavioral treatment. We’re so glad to see these disorders get some attention and begin to educate the general public! The original article is no longer on the Washington Post, but can be found here
